EXTRA CREDIT: ARISTOTLE'S RHETORIC

THIS IS THE WEBSITE:

http://www2.iastate.edu/~honeyl/Rhetoric/

YOU MUST WRITE A SENTENCE IN WHICH YOU CONFIRM THAT YOU HAVE INDEED READ THE SELECTION AND YOU MUST THEN LIST TEN DETAILS THAT YOU FOUND TO BE THE ESSENTIAL POINTS OF THE READING.

C.

This may be done at any point in the semester and each "book" counts as one extra credit activity.

EXTRA CREDIT FOR THIS WEEK

Some recent studies have pointed to a decline in reading as an American leisure activity. Research that problem. Are Americans reading less? Have reading habits simply changed? Why? Or is that perception simply wrong? Write a thesis-driven essay in which you take a stand on the issue and support your position with evidence from your own observation and/or experience and your research.

HOMEWORK FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 20-24

For Tuesday, September, 21: Read and Annotate Chapter 3
For Wednesday, September 22: Write an essay on one of the following prompts: 1. #4 on page 151. Form a thesis on the topic and write an essay. 2. Given what has been written about the differences between how men and women communicate, the reader might assume that the unwillingness of Perkin's husband to share his daily experiences is simply a male trait. Is that difference really born out? Are men less likely to share verbally their feelings and fears? Research the topic--maybe go to some military blogs. Form a thesis on the topic and write an essay.
For Thursday, September 23: Type your essay and do a self edit--using the self edit sheet that I will give you on Wednesday--on the essay (from practice exam that will be peer edited on Thursday in class)
For Friday, September 24: Study for Vocabulary quiz, Clean copy of essay (from practice exam that will be peer edited on Thursday in class)
