SUB PLANS FOR JANUARY 26-27

Saturday, January 22, 2011

Dear AP Language & Composition students:

Mr. Rugg just asked me on Wednesday if I would be able to go on the senior trip since Mrs. Kuhnast is unable to go. This means that I will not be in class on Wednesday or Thursday. I have been thinking of a creative and productive way to plan for our class on those two days. I participate in an AP teachers’ blog and one of the teachers gave a great idea for reviewing rhetorical terms. Since we have five new students joining us, I thought this would be a great beginning.

I will be dividing you into groups and each group will be responsible for five (5) rhetorical terms. You will need to discover a creative way to present each word to the class in order for everyone to understand the terms. You can use software like Powerpoint, MovieMaker, Photoshop, Garage Band, etc).
The focus of the activity is for each group to think about what works as a way for their peers to understand the terms, then show it in some way that your audience of peers will understand. Often silly or weird sticks in our heads. Two years ago, our class came up with a silly song. Pop culture connections, songs, rhymes, or other mnemonic devices help people to remember them. Be creative and have fun. Groups will present their words on Friday.

If you have any questions, please let me know by Sunday night since I will be traveling on Monday morning. I will try to reserve the computer lab or the library so that you will have computer access.

My substitute will hand out the list of students in each group and your list of words.

HAVE FUN!!!

C.
